Lake Superior Zoo

Explore more than 140 species of animals in both indoor & outdoor habitats. See a tiger, talk with a parrot, and even hang with a two-toed sloth! Be sure to check out one of our keeper chats where you can learn about our animals and maybe even get to see a training session or special enrichment. Make the most of your zoo experience with a behind-the-scenes tour, such as lion feeding, lion painting, primate keeping, and so much more.

All aboard for train excursions on the North Shore Scenic Railroad

History comes alive on the Lakefront line during the summer and autumn seasons. Several trains a day depart the historic Duluth Union Depot for a trip through downtown Duluth, Canal Park, along the shore of Lake Superior and deep into the majestic north woods. Fully narrated tours tell the history of Duluth, the harbor, and the stories of the railroads that built northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Bentleyville

America’s largest free walk-through lighting display! Bentleyville is a FREE walk-through event! Parking for the tour is usually around $10 per vehicle, paid at the gate (no presale). Santa & Mrs. Claus are at the event handing out goodies, as well as bonfires for roasting marshmallows, popcorn and hot cocoa. Children 10 and under receive a free knit hat and packaged bag of cookies after visiting with Santa!

Park Point Beach

Anyone who hasn’t been beyond Canal Park needs to cross the Aerial Lift Bridge at least once to drive along one of the world’s biggest sandbars in Duluth, Minnesota. It’s flanked mostly by modest historic homes and increasingly larger modern beach houses with views of the harbor to the south and open lake to the north. At the very tip is Park Point, which has that Lake Superior rarity: a sand beach. Kids can run along the shore, enjoy climbing across the play structure built to resemble an ore boat or try the nature trail that heads into an old-growth forest near the small airport.
