Duluth is a great city to explore with a dog. Miles of beach, a lakefront trail and plenty of patios mean your pup can come along for most of the trip. Bayview Cottage welcomes one dog, so here is our local guide to dog-friendly Duluth.
Park Point beach with your dog
Park Point, the long sandbar where Bayview Cottage sits, has miles of Lake Superior beach right across the street from the cottage. Dogs are welcome, but city rules require them to be on a leash. Bring water, a towel for sandy paws and bags to clean up. Early mornings and the off-season are the quietest times for a long beach walk.
Walk the Lakewalk
The Duluth Lakewalk runs for miles along Lake Superior from Canal Park, and leashed dogs are welcome. Pet waste bags are stationed along the way. Start near the Aerial Lift Bridge and head northeast for lake views the whole way.
Off-leash dog parks
- Keene Creek Dog Park in West Duluth, fully fenced with a separate area for small dogs.
- Observation Dog Park, a fenced park with a small-dog section. Bring your own water.
- Jean Duluth Dog Park on the north edge of town, with a double-gated entry and a small-dog area.
Dog-friendly stops around town
- Duluth Cider welcomes dogs on its outdoor patio, with water bowls provided.
- Duluth Pack in Canal Park lets leashed dogs browse with you.
- Lester Park and many city parks welcome leashed dogs on their trails.
